my (other) latest French obsession and the secret to my melting heart

So as stated previously in my Francois Hardy post, I'm kind of obsessed with the French language right now. I'm still listening to my french station 90.3FM, of which my mom, once entering my car with the station playing said, "what the hell Andrea. Why don't you read a french book or something."

My latest is Joe Dassin. I first heard him from one of my fav. movies The Darjeeling Ltd. -- he sings the opening song "Les Champs-Elysees" -- and have since downloaded a lot of his songs and love them. He sounds like a French Johnny Cash in "cadeau de papa" but my fav song of his has to be a tie between "pour un flirt" and "dans Paris, a velo" -- love.

I also saw the movie Penelope last night and had to say that I was reluctant to watch it at first. I didn't really think a movie about a girl cursed with a pig snout face was really something I was interested in seeing (although Christina Ricci is pretty good in my books). Also, after Atonement fame, I wasn't all that jazzed about James McAvoy either. However, I think I have succeeded in located the waterworks of my movie heart -- haunting European setting with crazy clothes and the lead male in a fedora. My heart melts at the sight of McAvoy (aptly named Johnny in the film) in all black with his blue blue eyes (pictured), the only thing that would make me die more was if James' character had worn black-rimmed reading glasses. seriously. The script is not that bad either. The movie has this tall tale - Tim Burton feel as directed by newcomer Mark Palansky. I liked it, even though it wasn't a smash. I would actually buy this movie (on previously viewed).
