Je t'aime

Lately, for some reason, I have stumbled upon a lot of movies set in France. Subtitles and all. Most recently, I resurged my love for the movie Amelie and witnessed the excellence that is Paris, je t'aime -- a set of 18 short films all set in France. Very cool. The short film starring Maggie Gyllenhaal Quartier des Enfants Rouges featured Mags showing off her French lessons. Other American actors like Elijah Wood, Natalie Portman, and Steve Buscemi stayed either silent or speaking their native "American."

Another short to note in this series was Père-Lachaise directed by Wes Craven. It featured British actors Rufus Sewell (the creep Jasper in The Holiday) and Alexander Payne as Oscar Wilde - the Schick is that two British tourists have a lover's quarrel in front of the grave of Oscar Wilde and then Oscar gives the bloke some lines to impress his lady. I have to say that Alexander Payne is an eerie likeness to Wilde -- despite his inclination of acting more like a refined cowboy from Nebraska, than an infamous writer.

I never forgot how I missed this film at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival when I had a coveted press pass. So I'm glad I finally got to see it. Maintenant...I long to go to Paris (even though i hear horror stories).

Speaking of travel. I have to congratulate my friend Jocey who scored a scholarship to Middlesex University in England. She is moving there in August to get her Masters in International Business, and I will miss her tons. On the bright, this gives me a reason to go there, and also to visit France (since the two are neighbors).
